“The story centers on a man who stands up for his family and seeks revenge for the wrongs done to his loved ones. After his younger brother is tragically killed over a petty argument, feared and retired criminal Bhaiyya Ji sets out to seek justice against the powerful Gujjar responsible, mobilizing his loyal comrades and igniting a wave of vengeance that threatens to shake the criminal underworld. While the premise is simple, the film infuses a blend of South and Bhojpuri elements, which may not be palatable to all viewers.
Discussing the screenplay penned by Apoorva Singh Karki and Deepak Kigtani, there’s a reliance on clichés and predictable plot twists, resulting in a storyline that feels unoriginal and uninspired. The filmmakers seem oblivious to the preferences of their target audience, delivering a film reminiscent of the 80s and 90s that modern viewers may struggle to appreciate.
Regarding the direction by Apoorva Singh Karki, there’s poor execution leading to confusion and lack of coherence. The cast delivers over-the-top and inconsistent performances, with weak character development hindering audience connection. The screenplay and dialogues lack wit and depth, reflecting uninspired direction and a dearth of creativity in filmmaking techniques.
In terms of performances, Manoj Bajpayee shines with his ability to convincingly portray complex characters, while Zoya Hussain adds emotional depth to the storyline with her effective emoting. However, actors like Suvinder Vicky and Vipin Sharma feel underutilized, with their characters lacking depth and development. The chemistry between certain actors feels forced or lacking, particularly with the antagonist Suvinder Vicky failing to match Bajpayee’s prowess. Suggestions for a more fitting antagonist like Pradeep Rawat or Supreet are warranted.
The highlight of the film lies in its action sequences, commendably choreographed by action director S. Vijayan. The VFX, especially in close-up shots, adds to the film’s visual appeal. The title track, composed by Manoj Tiwari, Tulika Upadhyay, and Deepak Thakur, pumps up the energy with its Bhojpuri beats, though the film’s soundtrack is limited to just two songs.
Overall, Bhaiyyaji falls short of expectations, delivering a nonsensical narrative that earns it a two-star rating.”
