Ruslaan Film Review: A Lackluster Tale of Missed Opportunities”

Ruslaan presents a cliché storyline with few surprises, and its major twist arrives too late. It follows Ruslaan, raised by an ATS officer after his terrorist father’s demise, as he endeavors to thwart a terrorist attack on Mumbai.

Though Ayush Sharma’s character is named Ruslaan, signifying a lion, the film lacks any lion-like portrayal beyond action scenes. The screenplay is convoluted with excessive twists and turns. Questions arise, such as how Jagapati Babu’s character, the ATS Chief, remains unaware of Ayush Sharma’s affiliation with RAW. Eventually, Jagapati Babu’s character is revealed as the main antagonist, Qasim, adding another layer of complexity with the introduction of a Chinese villain.

Ayush Sharma’s acting lacks versatility, with his expressions remaining consistent regardless of the scene’s emotional demands. Surishri’s debut performance is average, while Vidya Malvade’s portrayal seems forced. Jagapati Babu’s acting also falls short. The music, composed by Vishal Mishra, Rajat Nagpal, and Akashdeep Sengupta, fails to leave a lasting impression, lacking any memorable songs.

The film’s saving grace lies in its background music and well-executed action sequences, especially those filmed in Azerbaijan, accompanied by captivating cinematography. These elements salvage an otherwise lackluster film.
